TariMari and Ammara Brown Simuka Single Launch

Friday 4 November 2016, 6pm till late Chez Zandi, Alliance Francaise,  Harare

This Friday 4 November TariMari will launch her first collaborative work with Ammara Brown at the arty Chez Zandi- Bistro and Wine Bar. The single comes after the successful launch of her debut album “Kumusha” early August this year.

TariMari is not a new name to music lovers as she was part of the late mbira star Chiwoniso Maraire’s band as a dance and a vocalist. She also featured on a lot of Book Café shows and also performed at Miombo Magic Festival, Pariah State Avondale, Chez Zandi, and her performances has always wooed the crowd.

The song Simuka is an inspirational and mind opening song a creation by the two powerful female singer-song writers of our generation. It has a message of perseverance to the Zimbabweans and the world at large. The song is a composition created by the voice of the Mbira instrument, which Ammara and TariMari both play. The lyrics, the emotion and melody of the song are very traditional and home grown but at the same time very modern, inclusive and very relevant to the modern of the music climate.

“Both Ammara and TariMari are influenced with the Great Mbira Star Chiwoniso Maraire’s music and teachings. She would always ask for a challenge when playing mbira. This was the motive of her teaching, making something different with the instrument. And these two constantly make that mark, they  create of a new way of innovatively using the mbira,” said Mbiravolution Musicologist Extra-Blessings Kuchera, I have heard the song and it is a winner it’s a creation rather than a rendition. Yes its true as Ethno-Musicologist Mugani says, ‘Mbira is the force of musical law in Zimbabwean music and we cannot run away from that’.”

TariMari’s past influence her way of creation. It is a reflection of her life and how she grow up. Coming from a very strong Zimbabwean rural background which she is proud of and has also become a cosmopolitan citizen of the Global village, she is a perfect mosaic of the two worlds which is represented by her music.

“The type of music that I make is sounds that I relate to, be it traditional or modern, and from those sounds I derive my music,” said TariMari, “I write my music from my experiences even my lyrics, it’s what I have encountered in life, what I am feeling in that moment. I believe you can only get to another humans heart if you are true to yourself.”

“I believe this track is one of the next best things in Zimbabwe, the Simuka Single Launch will be a show you would not want to miss.  The lineup will include Baba Shupi, Chengeto Brown, Alex Brown, her immaculate band and the goddess Ammara Brown who she collaborated with on the single Simuka, in Greek we say ‘As Gledisoume (Lets Party)’” Said her TariMari’s Marketing Manager of the event Eleni Athitaki.

The event will start at 6pm at Chez Zandi- Bistro and Wine at Alliance Francaise 328 Hebert Chitepo. A venue that has also kept the live music scene in Harare thriving.
