Mbiravolution launches exhibition

HARARE - Mbiravolution, a community of mbira players and researchers will this Friday launch a photography exhibition, Let the Instrument Speak at the Book Café.

 

Extra-Blessings Kuchera, one of the exhibition coordinators said the showcase seeks to give instruments an opportunity to tell their own story.

 

“The mbira is one of the most unique instruments in Zimbabwe and is played in religious, commercial and entertainment ceremonies.

 

“Let the Instrument Speak will look at world music cultures through exhibiting instruments of other nations and giving them an opportunity to tell stories from their countries,” said Kuchera.

 

The exhibition is also slated for Zambia where it will show on November 16 at the famous Café Zambezi in Livingstone. 

 

It will make a stop in Bulawayo at the USpas American Corner on November 14.

 

The exhibitions will comprise poetry and mbira performances by renowned artists including a live visual interpretation of the poetry and mbira by visual artists. 

 

Hector “Hectic” Mugani who plays for Chikwata 263 will perform some mbira renditions while Arnold “So Profound” Chirimika who is the current National Poetry Slam Champion will recite poems.
